Project Quilting: think outside the square

I decided since I seem to have the time this year to play along with persimmon Dreams Quilting challenge

The theme is Eight is great and this week was think outside the square

I instantly went to search for 8 point stars in octogons

eventually I found a video tutorial on how to create 8 point stars

then used my new planner to create a plan

The fabric choices were fairly easy they are scraps from my FQS block of the month quilts

it took a little fiddling to figure out which way to lay the star but it came together quickly and was easy to peice

by that afternoon I was hand quilting (something new for me)

My basting could have been better, I’ll get some spray this week

today I completed the Quilting on my machine and pieced the binding, the back isn’t pretty but we don’t look at that

It’s done and I have definitely learned a thing or two in the process
